International Scientific Conference at DigiHealthEdu

November 3rd, 2021

DigitalHealthEdu is the acronymous for the activity “Digital health in teacher training: an interdisciplinary and gendered approach”, coordinated by Maria José Camacho-Miñano, which has been funded by the Spanish Government through the National calls for grants for postgraduate courses in gender studies related to equality opportunities between women and men (Reference 7/6ACT/2020).

The idea that supports this action is the consideration that digital health technologies are far from neutral but transmit powerful gender messages in the specific ways of understanding healthy behaviours (diet, physical exercise, etc.), bodies, subjectivities, and even the data generated by the digital technologies themselves.

The research team of this UNA Europa project participated in the International Scientific Conference hold as the third day of the seminars for training teachers and research. After the institutional welcome by Gonzalo Jover Dean of the Faculty of Educatio (University Complutense of Madrid), Emma Rich developed the first main conference, entitled “There is no finish. There is never a finish. You need to keep going ...” Gender, self-tracking and digital health technologies’. Antonio Maturo focused in the landscape of apps through the intervention entitled: “The message is the medium (size). Aesthetic violence in apps for fitness and dieting”. Finally, we all participated in the Panel discussion ‘Promoting gender equality through digital health in the school context: challenges and opportunities’ coordinated by Shirley Gray.

We would like to thank the attendees for their interest and positive feedback we have received!
