New project presented at the Spanish Call

December 9th 2021

This new project responds to the urgent need of involving young people in how to address the gap related to the absence of critical education about digital health in schools. Therefore, we aim to co-develop with young people innovative and critical pedagogical ideas about digital health technologies in schools, informed by a deep understanding of the meanings, contexts and social factors that shape Spanish young people’s relation with digital health.

The research design will be participatory, multi-method, iterative, and multi-sited (in two Spanish Regions), and will include: 1) Participatory methodologies with two small groups of young people (one per region) who will adopt the position of experts and active participants through all the research process, as co-researchers; 1) digital ethnographic methods, including digital diaries which aims to explore with young people their ideas about and experiences of using digital health technologies within the contexts of their material, sensory and social worlds; 2) Co-creative workshops for the co-construction of creative participatory activities with young people aimed to develop critical digital health pedagogies in schools.

The main output of this project will be the design of an educational proposal aimed at critical education on digital health. This proposal will include strategies, activities and educational resources to be used by teachers in the last years of Primary and Secondary Education. A total of 14 researchers from eight universities, both from Spanish (U. Complutense de Madrid, U. Zaragoza, U. Vigo, U. Salamanca) and from other European Countries (U. Bath, U. Edinburgh, U. Helsinki, U. Bologna) would participate in the research and work team. The principal investigator of this proposal is Maria José Camacho Miñano (UCM).
